Before Salt & Luz
2019. I stumbled into horoscopes and tarot cards on Youtube in desperate search for my future husband. I treated it as a pathway of discernment and devoted myself to it. I happened to share this interest with a Christian friend of mine, who then reminded me of my Catholic roots and that divination is not of God. Instantly, I felt my world crumble, realising the weight of my sin. Thanks be to God, my friend reminded me of God's immense mercy and brought me to her church. Since then, my life had never been the same and I am so grateful for it.
Reversion to my Catholic Faith
When I was a child, I believed in God, I prayed to Him and loved Him dearly. Then at some point in my teenage and young adult years, I drifted away. Through God's grace and mercy, alongside my family and friends — especially my friend then and now fiancé Tim, who were practising Catholic, I was able to return and pursue my Catholic faith. I started reading God's Word, going to Mass once again, learning from Fr Mike Schmitz' videos, and slowly went through the Sacraments — First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation. I believe that Our Blessed Mother had been with me all along, holding my hand even when I didn't care to hold on.
The beginnings of Salt & Luz
When the lockdowns happened during COVID, I joined the #30DayBibleLetteringChallenge on Instagram which helped me to create these Faith, Hope & Love-filled designs. After, I had an idea to maybe start a stationery business (like the people I've been watching on YouTube). Through God's providence and humour, I got twice the quantity of postcards that I got printed. Frankly, it was too much for me to keep, and so for sometime I distributed copies whenever there were parish events or Archdiocesan gatherings. Hello to those who have randomly received my cards!
Being Salt & Luz
When I learned through a friend that "Luz", my nickname, meant light in Spanish, it just made sense to embrace this little pun to reflect what God calls us to be: a salt and light to the world so that we may glorify Him. So now the invitation is here — to be a salt and light to others, sharing the beautiful and wonderful treasure that Jesus is!
✠ GOD'S WORD ✠
“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet.
You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
— Matthew 5:13-16
